center, middle, heart, core, midst
这些名词均含有“中心”之意。
center : 指三维空间的中心点，也可比喻抽象事物的中心。
例如：At that time people believed the earth was the center of the universe. （当时人们相信地球是宇宙的中心。）
middle : 一般指时间、空间或过程两端间等距的部分。
例如：It's best to slice into a rich cake from the middle.（最好把甜美的蛋糕从中间切开。）
heart : 指事物最内部或最重要的部分，表地理位置时可与center换用。
例如：They had reached the heart of the forest.（他们到了森林的中心地带。）
core : 指某事物固定的中心部分或最重要的核心部分。比喻意义指某物的精华。
例如：The core of our appeal is freedom of speech.（我们呼吁的中心是要言论自由。）
midst : 书面语用词，指在一个群体的深处或在某活动的进程中。
例如：There is a thief in our midst.（我们当中有小偷。）
