中国官员在美国大学毕业典礼上的讲话
非常荣幸参加贵校今年的毕业典礼。我要向在座的毕业生表示最热烈的祝贺。今天是个不平凡的日子。 一个充满了喜悦，欢庆和憧憬的日子。俗话说：“一分耕耘，一分收获。”经过几年的勤奋学习，你们的付出终于得到了回报。
I am honored to attend the your college’s commencement ceremony and wish to express my warmest congratulations to all the students who graduated today. Today is an extraordinary day, a day full of happiness, joy and aspiration. As a saying goes:”No pain, no gain.” Today, your years of efforts is finally answered.
人生中毕业是一个重要的里程碑，关于毕业之后的事，得益于人生经验。或许我比各位知道的略多一些。这里我想说的是，第一要保持干劲。毕业典礼这个词在英语里是开始的意思。因此，毕业并不是结束，毕业意味着你们有所准备。但它不会自然而然地将你们引向成功。是否能抓住机遇，获得成功要看你们未来的作为,而不是过去的成绩。
Graduation is an important milestone in one’s life. What will take place after one graduates depends on the encounters in his life. Maybe I am a little better informed than some of you presented today. Here is my message. First, one must continue to work hard. In English, Commencement means the beginning. Therefore, graduation means more than an end. It means you are somewhat prepared, but it will never lead you to success as a matter of course. Whether you can seize opportunities and succeed depends more on what you will do in the future rather than what you have done in the past.
第二，要保持自信，人生不会一帆风顺。它总是跌宕起伏，充满挑战。从挫折中学到知识将使你们更加明智和坚强。第三，要保持全球意识，在当今全球化进程中，单靠一国之力无法解决世界上的重大问题。各国相互依赖，利益交织，形成了一个利益共同体。
Secondly, you must have confidence in yourself. Life is anything but uneventful. Instead, it is filled with twists and turns and challenges. Learning from setbacks makes you wiser and stronger. Thirdly, one must maintain a global vision. In the process of globalization today, it is impossible for any country to resolve the major issues in the world by itself. The countries in the world are interdependent with their interests intertwined to become a community.
第四段应对全球问题，靠得是全球合作，而合作则呼唤全球意识。我们两国有着不同的历史背景、社会制度，文化传统和经济发展水平。如果我们能够认同并宽容这种差异，相互理解就并非难事，就容易形成全球同识。
Dealing with the global issues needs the global cooperation, which calls for a global awareness. We two countries are different in our historical backgrounds, social institutions, cultural traditions and levels of economic development. If we can identify and tolerate the disparity, it will not be a different matter for us to have mutual understanding and consensus on global issues.
