Part 1  Mirrors

Do you often look at yourself in the mirror every day?

Well, as for me, I do that at least once a day. In the morning before I go to work, I need to look at myself in the mirror and make sure I look decent enough.

EgI don’t think any decent person would do that.

How many mirrors do you have at home and where are they?

Well, there are altogether 2 mirrors at my home, and one is placed in front of the washbasin so that I can use it whenever I need to wash my face, and another is put on the wall of my living room, which is near the main door so that I can take a quick look at myself in it before I go out.

EgShe poured a cup of tea and placed it on the table.

Do you bring a mirror with you when you go out?

Well, as a man, I don’t bring mirrors with me. I would feel kind of awkward to pick up a mirror from my pocket. However, my guess is that most women probably carry a mirror with them because they generally pay much more attention to how they look, especially when they have to go out for an appointment.

EgA laugh can help people over an awkward situation.

Is there anything bad about mirrors?

Well, honestly speaking, I cannot think of anything bad about mirrors. However, there was once when I saw one of my female colleagues starting to panic just because she forgot to bring her mirror when we went out for a lunch break at a restaurant. Therefore, mirrors might have a negative impact on some women.

EgLunch break at the hotdog stand in the park is the most enjoyable time for me.

Part 2 & 3

Part 2题目

Describe a trip that you went on by public transportation.

You should say:

Where you went

What means of transportation you took

Who you were with

How you felt about the trip.

This topic reminds me of my 3-day trip to London. It is well known that London is one of the most attractive and fascinating travelling destination for many backpackers. I went there 5 years ago when I studied at the University of Glasgow.

London is not far from Glasgow, so definitely it’s a good idea to go there by train. It took us approximately 4-5 hours to go there. I remember that I went there with my friends Tina and Ivy who were my classmates. Since we all had young person cards, we bought tickets at a relatively cheaper price than usual.

During that time I visited many tourist attractions and took part in all sorts of activities as many as possible, like visiting the Buckingham palace, going shopping, enjoying various exhibitions in the British Museum, and hanging around those world-renowned universities and so on.

I think I enjoyed this trip very much because actually it’s a long-time personal wish. Since I was little, British culture had influenced me in many fields, in terms of movies, music, sports, arts and even cartoon characters. Besides, I’m a big fan of Harry Potter, and I have to say London is a fantastic place to get close to some magical scenes of that movie series, for example, in the King’s Cross railway station you can find the 9¾ platform. Moreover, there is a wide range of cultural and natural heritages that impressed me a lot. Those must-see tourist attractions include Westminster abbey, the Parliament, Tower Bridge and you name it!

EgGolden Gate Bridge is a really famous tourist attraction.

EgA recent influx of world-renowned painters, artists, and fashion designers to the area has sparked the opening of new shops and cafes.

EgThis movie is a must-see.

EgYou are an avid backpacker, and you've been all of the United States perhaps even broader.

Part 3题目

1. How can we fix traffic problems?

It’s hard to say. I think some problems such as the overcrowded roads can be solved by better implementing public transportation. More buses and subways would ease heavy traffic jams. For individuals, if possible we should prefer the public transportation rather than driving our own car.

Eg: Those facilities are so overcrowded that men are sleeping outside, exposed to malarial mosquitoes breeding in standing water.

Eg: The government promised to implement a new system to control financial loan institutions.

2. What’s the most popular means of transportation in your country?

The most popular form of transportation in our country is the private car. China has the greatest number of cars in the world, and it’s a common mode of transport. Besides, in some big cities, like Beijing and Shanghai, underground is a convenient method for most office workers as well. In Shanghai an average of ten million people travel by underground every day.

an average of:平均

Eg: American children now spend an average of seven and a half hours a day watching television or playing with electronic devices.

Eg: I don't travel on the underground late at night.

3. Do you prefer public or private transportation? Why?

Personally, I prefer the public transportation. Currently, I usually take tube to work because driving a car is fairly unpredictable. If there is heavy traffic I can’t estimate the exact time it’ll cost to arrive at my workplace. Besides, it’s convenient to take the underground, since there is underground stations close to my flat and workplace respectively.

Eg: Try to estimate how many steps it will take to get to a close object.

Eg: Weather is becoming more extreme and unpredictable.
